I will have to disagree with those of you who think the $ for this website is a "Bummer". The time and money required to keep this site on-line isc far more than most would think. If you think you can get the same quality of fishing info. on some of the other free sites, then do it. Those of us who know better will not miss you. Thanks, Ron |
It's folks like you and your comment that have brought the end to many that used to share and a wealth of knowledge that used to be on this site. There are many more sites that you can get more knowledge from than here. This used to be solely a Carolina site which so many of us Carolina folks loved but as far as boating, fishing, etc there are other places. Not knocking this site at all by any means but there used to be so much more shared here. |
Probably the most telling thing about where the site is now, is that there is no Big Rock thread, IMO. |

This has never been a big Tournament Site....But a Shout Out to my friend Capt_John on bringing one to the dock today.....I do not recall there ever being much BR info on here over the years.
This site has always been about fishing for the working guys. That has always been it's focus.

Yea, but you can't say there are a lot fewer posting much of anything as it once was back when it was fryingpantower. And a lot has to do with the small community of folks and certain ones pissing some off.
Did you get my PM by the way regarding the app. Got confirmation on purchase. reefcast works on computer but will not work on app itself. Keeps me at the buy page _________________ 2011 SEAHUNT Gamefish 25

It has not...but the Big Rock is the premier fishing event in NC every year and even those of us who don't fish it love to follow along. How many of the people posting on here nowadays even know what the Big Rock is?
This site has mostly become the site for people who have never been fishing before and are just starting. That's fine, everyone has to start somewhere, but it is going to limit what gets talked about. |

Wavescrash,
We will just have to agree to disagree on this point. Social Media is sending Forums (Like this one) the way of the DooDoo bird. It is a fight I can not win....so I am not even going to try. This site is used EXTENSIVELY by a crap load of very very good fishermen and a bunch of Charter Captains as well.
I do Fish Here Maps almost every night of week. I know how many folks use Bluewater Supermap each day and how many use ReefCast each day. I see their posts on Facebook and other social media all the time. Do I get public credit for pointing them in the right direction....Hell No...but I also see the FeedBacks I get on the maps.
Just because the forums are slow....does not mean they are not here....They just do not post for lots of different reasons. _________________ Captain Dave Tilley

Social media includes every tom, dick and Harry that has ever thought about fishing. This site has mostly toms and harrys with a lot less dicks. A few dicks sometimes show up, but dont stick around too long. Thats why im on this site and do not exist on Facebook.
Some folks here are extremely knowledgeable, some just starting out...but most are respectful and reasonably humble. Much unlike other social media. Hope it stays that way. |

I've learned a lot on this site. Reefcast, supermap and the fish here maps have been great for us. We don't fish offshore that many times a year unfortunately. We rely on reefcast and a fish here map every time we do though. I'm not too proud to admit I'm still figuring out how to go offshore and be productive. The tools available on this site and the informative posts have shortened my learning curve. I'll be paying for the reefcast service before I go off again and unless I'm strictly bottom fishing, I'll get a map too. Thanks Capt Dave for all you do. |

Most of the weather apps to get the “good info” cost money and none predict the secondary wave like Reefcast. Buoyweather is pretty good, but costs around $80 a year...so Reefcast is a helluva bargain! Money well spent in this hobby. Probably more posts on other sites about Big Rock and such are made by the keyboard cowboys. _________________ \"Wet Clinic\"

$25? hell i spend that in ice for one trip! its worth it for the sub wave information IMHO, but for the guys that are complaining, enjoy NOAA! fishermen/fisher-woman have become the most whinny, arrogant people i know. _________________

for a free forum resource, I certainly love this place and like I said - will probably pony up the reefcast dough before my next offshore trip.
thanks for all you do capt dave.

Dave, thanks for covering the cost and effort for as long as you did.
For those complaining, I'll just assume you are left wing liberals who think everything should be handed out for free since that is the stance a few of you are taking on this issue. He's offered this for free for a long time and has decided to charge a small fee for it going forward. Instead of saying thank you, you whine and complain. Typical liberals. |
I think you have that backwards.
-The conservatives are the ones that don't want to pony up for anything.
-The liberals are ok with him charging for it, but want everyone else to chip in to cover their subscription.
-Meanwhile, pirates like me are just working on a way to steal it (just kidding Capt. Dave)

Personally I would charge more than $24 so it's a good thing I'm not running the show. _________________ Matador

I am a multi-year user of this, and many other sites. When I was cruising the islands (7 years), i relied on lots of sites that charge lots of money. I support the charge for service because I want to make sure it stays there for my use. Free sites have a tendency to just disappear. It is true that you "get what you pay for". I feel that Reefcast is a deal, and I like that I can rely on it being there when I want to use it.
Stay the course, Dave! |

I don't even own a boat anymore and will be signing up just for those days I want to go down and go out on a headboat. I hate 4-5' seas if I can avoid them. And yes Thank You Capt Dave for the many years I have enjoyed this website. |

How do you pull up the reefcast info in the app? I click on the reef symbol and it says "loading" but then nothing. |

Dave
I was a little shocked to see this post. I've been on this site since 2005 and have always found the information helpful and as a fisherman, one of the best sites for local info. But as a businessman myself, I know what it costs to run a business and make a profit, and I sincerely doubt we will see a new 61 Spencer purchased from what Dave makes off this from collecting $24 a year for reefcast. Its a frickin bargain.
I think everyone should thank Capt Dave for what he has done, as I expect there are many who have benefitted from one of the best fishing sites out there. _________________ Steve

Thank you for providing the service. The few times I get offshore Reefcast is my go-to and it will be again this year, charge or no-charge. I really like the format. |
