Does anyone know if and who can paint a aluminum jon boat? My son has a 20' Lowe Rough Neck cc, the paint on the hull is faded and splotchy. Trying to find if this can be painted. At the same time would like to paint the deck in a light color with some sort of non skid. He has removed all of the paint from the deck primed it and painted a non skid product on it but it does not seem to hold up well. Any ideas?

I've been considering using the SeaDek sheet material on the deck of my Jon boat. It costs more, but having a non-skid heat reflecting surface may be worth it. It's worth looking at.

Looked at it last year. Around December they run a 50% off sale. He was going to do it last year but missed the sale by one day. Probably need to remind him again. Would really like to get the hull repainted, know anyone?

Don't know any painters. My G3 is pretty banged up, but I kinda like it that way. Makes me less concerned about scratching the paint when I'm docking or beaching, or when someone drags the anchor chain over the side. I still keep her clean and give her good mechanical maintenance though.
Thanks for the heads up about the winter sale on the SeaDek material. I'll be keeping my eyes open for the next one.

A lot of people use the Rustoleum "camo" paint on Jon boats. But like with all paint jobs the results are all in the prep. You need to insure you remove all loose and flaking paint. I usually will use an etching primer on any bare aluminium. Scuff the boat with a red scotch brite pad and then be sure to put it on in a few even coats.

I will be painting a Jon boat here in the next month and will post pics.

Barry:

The best for aluminum is a Zinc Chromate primer with a eurethane topcoat. Sherwin Williams POLANE is really good topcoat for this application. It's what we use on all our Aluminum Aircraft products.

PM me, I might have some extra but it would be yellow.

Once upon a time I had a green jon boat. I spent a week sanding it down, top to bottom. Then I painted it with Rustoleum marine paint: white topside, black bottom (not anti foul). and it held up REALLY well. Prep work makes the difference and it's not that tough of a job to do if you have TIME.
