I just had my boat inspected by the Auxillary. It's free and worth the time. There inspection goes over all your safety equipment, your boat and a lot of good information. I know we all check our equipment but another set of eyes looking at the safety side can't hurt. You can request an inspection by phone or email your local office. They have locations in Surf City, Wilmington and Carolina Beach. Www.cgaux.org

Great suggestion. Do they make appointments and more importantly, do they do the inspection on the water? No trailer.

Any idea how long it is good for? I forgot to ask on the last one I had done. Until 31 December 2017? Or 12 months from inspection date? Not a big deal. Still a good idea and most helpful to have the sticker.

I don't know about the sticker on the windshield. I got my boat checked by the auxillary Coast Guard at Morehead City on a Saturday and the next weekend I got checked by the Coast Guard. I showed them the sticker and told them it was done the weekend before and I guess it didn't help cause I got checked again

That's surprising. Were you doing anything stupid?

The active duty guys do have to train others, they also need to meet a number of vessel boardings. If they see the sticker, it is usually an easy boarding and helps them with both. Since it takes less time.
Get the Aux inspection, it is free and can save you a lot of money, if there is something wrong that you did not know. I knew almost all of the Fish and Game officers in Beaufort, SC and taught many of them. I was boarded a lot for both of the above reasons, but they all knew me and also asked, if I minded and shared a lot of good fishing information.
That sticker only means that your boat passes a "courtesy inspection", it does not mean that you are not BWI, don't have enough PFD's , are not going through a "No Wake Zone" too fast, etc.
I personally love being boarded and getting to talk to all of them. They are great people, both the USCG and Marine Fisheries and they will talk to and help you. Some people may not like it, I take it as a opportunity to thank them.

Coast Guard and Marine fisheries guys are great. I never mind at all being stopped by them.

Now Wildlife.....Agh.... Exact opposite experience.....
