MAD Southport registration for volunteers is open and we once again need your help

If you are interested, MAD Southport will be held on September 8 and 9 at Southport Marina.

Our goal is to make this the largest event ever and we really need your help. Guest registration is opening soon and we expect the largest troop enrollment EVER

I can answer any questions you have and thank you for making MAD the largest all volunteer run take our troops fishing event in the world!

I did MAD SPT for 2 years and then got transferred up North and sold the boat.
If you are on the fence about this let me give you something to think about:
1 - Very well run event
2 - Good food
3 - Not a contest or fishing tournament, just a fun day on the water
4 - Troops are glad to be there
5 - Your fishing skills are secondary - these men and women enjoy a good day on the water.
6 - The other captains there will willingly help you find some fish/buddy boat ...etc
7 - Breaks your routine - gives you some time away from your regular fishing buddies - don't we all need a break from them?
8 - What have you done lately that is as much fun and as rewarding as this?
9 - SPT Marina is a great place for this event
10 - You get to meet some smart, polite, professional young people

There's 10 reasons to get off the fence. I am sure others have many more.
What are you waiting for?

The bride and I are bummed that we will miss this year. We've made the trip down the ICW from Morehead City for the past 3 years but another MAD commitment in MHC will keep us away.

The Southport event is exceptionally well run and it makes for a GREAT DAY with the troops. If you're on the fence but looking for a GREAT DAY with phenomenal young people, sign up and share your boat with them. You will have an excellent time and you will go home a very happy person.

That's the same weekend as the Wilmington Boat Show which I will be at. If nothing else I will have someone else run my boat for MAD like I did last year!

What's that latest numbers on this event? I am on the fence on volunteering my boat and time to go offshore. Need to ensure I can get that weekend off. Are boats still needed?

Roger that. I am trying to lasso another boat to join in with me so we can boat buddy out to the Bluewater for some wahoo and kings.
Question: Since I am in Ocean Isle is it better to have the military guys show up there at my house/dock for the departure or should I ride the ICW up to the Southport Marina and pick them up there?

A lot of that will depend on if they are coming in on the bus.(Single Marine Program) If they are, they won't have transportation. When you get your troops, just check with them. I've done the MHC event for 9 years and mine have met me at the marina every year, maybe a 5 minute extra drive for them, but a lot of added fishing time not having to jog in line to pick them up.

Thanks for volunteering!!! wtg

My question is kind of the same as Xplosive. I keep my boat in Hamstead drydock and don't own a trailer. So, would I need to cruise down Friday night and if so, where could I dock it. Would I have to find a hotel, sleep on the boat(c/c so not preferred) or stay up partying all night? This is a great cause and I've been wanting to participate since I first heard of the event and I think I finally have enough fishing talent and the boat to do so.

Any information is appreciated.

If you want to come down Friday night, we will have some slips available at Southport Marina.(not sure of # yet, but I'll find out) I'll have my truck down there and will be more than happy to carry you to motel and bring you back to the marina Saturday morning. wtg

As far as "fishing talent", these troops DO NOT CARE!!! Hey, they even let me volunteer! eek What they DO care about is getting to spend time relaxing with their buddys and being around people that appreciate what they do for our country!!!

The captain's meeting is at 6:00 Friday night at the marina, but if you can't make it, don't let that keep you from signing up! We can hook you up with anything you need Saturday morning.

Any questions about anything, let us know! wtg wtg wtg

Bumping this up again...

Record troop enrollment and we don't want to turn anyone away if it can be helped!

Please consider volunteering for the day.

Offshore, Inshore, Nearshore it is all good!
