Any advice on putting some black drum in the cooler this time of year? Soak fresh shrimp around docks? thanks

Probably your best bet. Dock or bridges. Up until the last 3 years I did almost no winter fishing, but go to Oak Island a lot now in the winter. Been doing well with black drum under the bridge there. It does slow down in winter, but did catch 3 last winter in 5 or so attempts. I'm not sure if the colder water this winter has any impact. Was so cold in Jan that I did not try. I did try this past weekend, but did not try for black drum at my usual spot. Use shrimp that you'd take home and eat. I cut a medium size shrimp in 3 pieces on a double hook rig with as light a weight as you can.

I found a big school last Feb. in the mouth of a creek at Oak Island where it joined the ICW.

Thanks for that information. Had a great bite back in early Dec under the old bridge where the marsh empties into the ICW. Good to know they may be schooled up in areas like that. Will be down for a long weekend starting Thu.
