Working on my 2018 tackle, since I shattered my Rt Clavicle (5 pcs) in a Skiing accident 5 wks ago. Ortho says i can ease into Offshore fishing again start of April. This is one time i'm glad the fan hasn't slowed.

What's your FAVORITE MOUSETRAP setup, including color. Do you really think color matters?

Thanks!

In case some aren't familiar with the term "Mousetrap" = the lure being dragged in the center-mid position (Prop Wash), further back than the short right/left but not past or to the long right/left.

A chain of small squids followed by a skirted ballyhoo seems to do well there. Things get crowded if you're running teasers though.

flippy floppy in pink with a mini jag or a 1oz bling trailer. Have caught tuna, mahi, sails, and wahoo on this rig. Always in the middle of the spread, in between shorts and outs. Hope this helps

We fish lots of different things in that spot in a lot of different distances. Short, (just out of the prop wash and short of the short riggers) it is serves more as an attractant for the short riggers, so we use a cedar plug or a chugger. Longer, it uses the shorts as the attractant, so we use just about everything in the box. That is a position that we usually change often during the day, both length and lure. A naked ballyhoo also often works well there. Don't be caught up on what that lure is catching, it usually just sets up the rest of the spread. Just my $.02 worth. Never heard it called the mouse trap, to us it has always been the prop wash bait or the center short. We really only fish it when the fishing is slow.

I've just heard a few of the Capt'n call it the Mouse Trap.
They did remark they felt it was more a draw.

Thanks for the Love...
