Took a ride in Finally Saturday/Sunday. Got down to Veatch in the dark Saturday night about 730-800pm Found dolphins and loads of squid 69ish degree water with a ton of weed. This was the eastern edge of the really good water on supermap. We know there was fish there but with the voracious squid ruining our baits and no bites we decided to move. This was after talking with Twister in Veatch and Pentwater in E Atlantis. John on Pentwater said fish were caught there(they got 2 swords and big 100# class yft)
We arrive just before the 240 tide. I asked where he started his drift when he caught his first sword.1300' So we started at 1350. We dropped a bait at 300' 200'(2) and 100' with the single tuna bait at the surface on a balloon 200' off the boat 15' down.
Wasn't long before we got our first sword bite on the deep rod. I jumped on the rod cranked didn't come tight so stopped and left it. 10 minutes later we get another bite. Jeff stars reeling and we come tight! 20 minutes we see it in the lights and don't screw up the end game for a nice 125ish# sword. After we get some grip and grins reset all the baits. With 4 of the 5 for swords and the one herring on the surface we are targeting Xiphius. While scrubbing out the cavity prepping for ice we get a nice bite on the herring. Knew it was a tuna and again Jeff gets on it. After a very stenuous fight withoout the belt we get a rod gimbal on him. When I get a look at this fish I knew it was 100#er easy. On the gaff shot I hit"em and the gaff head breaks off. Luckily we get another shot and with the small gaff and got r done. Then the curse strikes. Someone mentions hey we haven't lost a fish names withheld for protection purposes. Next fish on the line is a jig fish. With just the small gaff the first shot was the only shot. Unfortunately we didn't score and she swam away for another day. Not long after Mike decided to jig along with Jeff's Dad. I put the Go Glare in chrome on and the first drop it gets eaten right under the boat after hitting the water. Mike manhandles this 100+ yft on the spinner and Jeff gaffs it with style.

Between those events though we hooked a massive sword. Fight was short with a bitter ending, but it is why we continue to go. This fish took our bait and when decided to do anything it did. @ 30+#s of drag it swam to the bottom. Sounded like a 4# weight in freespool with the clicker on. After ripping off a ton of line she chaffed through to fight another day.
Now the boat New 34 Reg with the new F350's impressive isn't an understatement. I can see over the bow running while on the bolsters. I cannot do this on the 39 or 42 yellowfin. Being vertically challenged this is a concern for like sized people. The Garmin 76 series units were great. Very intuitive. There were some things I haven't seen happen and I was able to figure that out prettty easily even at speed with the bouncing around associated with running fast.
Great trip to end the season on if that's the last window weather wise
