My motor is past warranty and after searching I have read of guys running rotella t6 5w-40 and 15w-40 in the f150s with great success. Anyone run this stuff and what are your thoughts?

I would stick with the recommended weight. My 07 F150s use 10W30.Any good oil should be fine.I have always used Pennzoil 10W30 and a Purolator 10241 filter. They have a little over 5000 hours.Rotella may be better though. Is that oil for diesels? Is there any increased performance?

Your outboard engine has performance characteristics that are somewhere between automotive engines and high performance motorcycle engine.
It stands to reason that Yamaha designs an additive package to specifically meet the demands that are placed on an outboard engine. These specific demands would be running long periods of time under high loads at high RPM's. Diesels don't run at high RPM's so the Rotella might not be the best stuff. Sure it will work but why not buy what was designed for your engine by the engineers.
The formula for getting a lot of hours from an outboard seems to be simple.
Run a lot of hours consistently. Don't let you motor sit months on end without running like most do.
Keep your zincs fresh to prevent corrosion. Yes the internal ones too.
Change your oil/filter regularly and use stuff designed for an outboard
Don't spin them hard. Keep the RPM's below 4200.
Don't idle the motor for long periods of time.
Keep your injectors clean.

I would not run anything but the yamalube 10w30 blend designed for it. All of the above statements are very true and applicable. I deal with a lot of different machinery and as it seems that all oils are very close to each other, however one little difference or additive can ruin rotating equipment.

I have @ 2000 hours on twin 150's and I use 10W30 synthetic oil. I have been using this for years and they have ran like a champ.
I use WIX XP oil filters and Lucus 70-90 weight gear oil

I'm using Rotella t6 5w-40. It's a good stuff and not pricey. My motor seems to like it.
