Hi Folks,

Anybody have cost (and willing to share) of 100 hr. service on Yamaha 250's in the Southport area?

Got a quote of $535 per engine (I have twins) from one dealer, but I thought that was a little high. The dealer I bought the boat from quoted me $875-900 total, but they are up in Morehead City.

I know the 100 hr. service is mostly changing filters and fluids, and just checking for anything that seems out of the ordinary. So, the $535 per engine seemed a bit high to me.

Must be more to it than oil and filters. You can do that in an hour or so.

Call Chris at Carolina Outboards in Hampstead. (910) 319-0506
I'm in OKI and they perform all of my service, but be prepared if service people any good they will be covered up!

That price may be close to other dealers with pump impeller change included.

If you are even slightly mechanically inclined you can do the 100 hr. service yourself. the filters ,thermostats, oil is a breeze to do. the water pump is basically take it off and replace just like you removed it. lots of videos on you tube. I just did the 300 hour service on my verados and the parts were over 800. 00 .no telling what I saved in labor and became very familiar with the engines as long as the bolts release like they should it is no problem.

It is worth the drive, Chris and his team do awesome work. I take mine there from OKI for major work...(impeller change). Everything else i do myself.

Fishfull, i know the place you got the quote from, they are always really high. Partly because they have about the only yamaha certified mechanic in the area. My friends that use them say they do good work...just pricey.

There shouldn't be any need for a water pump change, unless the motors are 2 or 3 years old with 100hrs. I do mine every 2 or 3 years or every 200-300 hrs.

my 100hr service (1st one) was $488 (262 materials, 196 labor, 30 tax). Oil, filters, plugs, anode/zinc, ring free, gear oil, fuel filter.

i will probably be doing next 100hr service myself.

On my 250, Zimmerman was about 600$. I assume they did a great job because my boat is still running fine. That did not include impeller though.

My next service will be done by the little shop near the airport in front of the Long Beach Boat Storage place. He came with some very high recommendations from several Charter captains that I trust. Plus that is where I store my boat so, win win.

As others have said, you can do it yourself Very easily. I would have done it myself but I was lazy and didn't want to lose any fishing time while I am down at the beach...

I would never EVER let Zimmerman anywhere near anything I own ever again.

If I was on fire, I am not sure I would let them throw water on me

Yes, my experience with them was THAT bad

I remember your experience as well as others I have heard. Many places to take your boat and that is not one I would ever recommend. Too many horror stories from small to big jobs.
