No offense, Rodney, but there is no excuse for Chatham not having some way to rest that drill in position. It took me about 5 seconds to realize that I would throw that adapter in the garbage, and chuck the drill right onto the shaft behind the spring retainer.
Better yet, when the wife's not looking, find yourself a little sewing machine motor, with a foot pedal. That gives you variable speed, and two free hands. Sewing machine motors come in two styles, belt drive, and direct contact with the hand wheel, go for the belt drive. You might need a small pulley, with an Allen head for quick removal, on the winder shaft, and a mount for the motor somewhere below on the base. If you need reverse, you slip the belt off, and put a half twist between the motor and the shaft. That is, if you are using the small round belt, that looks like a big O-ring.
Sounds like a fun project.
