Beware the touristoes are out in full force this weekend. Every year starting in May the DIT DOTS & DING BATTERS envade our wonderful beaches of our home town Island. Packed to the hilt with all their gear, coolers, bikes, gas grills, boogie boards, ect...... They raid the Foodline shelves & clear out the beer coolers, back up traffic and twist there heads around like an Owl slamming on their brakes trying to find their beach house. LOL!!! I am thankful for all the revenue that they bring to our Island to support all of our local business. Everyone have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend!

It could be worse. At least we don't get the snow birds from Canada and the hub of the Yankee world. :D

As a "Dit Dot" or "Ding Batter" (not sure which I am) I guess I know which charter not to hire and which beach to avoid.

I too am thankful for the revenue provided by the visitors, but they really should learn to be more courteous to others on the water. When the ICW is running 10 wide with boats there really is no need for idiots to be going full speed weaving between them with children in the water behind boats and such. I know everyone has their own plan and agenda and the presence of all the other folks makes it harder for those plans to get met, but dont sacrifice the safety of others for your own selfish gain. And they should also learn to stay away from expensive gear that is clearly marked and clearly outside of the channel markers where they are meant to be instead of purposefully flirting with and subsequently destroying said gear. I feel better now even though it didn't solve anything. My screams of anger just weren't hitting their mark this morning. It doesn't matter if they are yan kees or southern or canadian or whatever, just act like your mama taught you to, and not like a 10 year old.

Hey Bobby, this is Ben. When I used to complain about the crowds, Gordy would tell me I was one of those who wanted to close the bridge behind me when I came onto the island. Lol, he was right

Don't know if I would be considered a "dit dot" or a "ding bat" but I know for sure that I will soon be a local. Just closed on a place in Southport. Have been reading the posts on the forum for awhile and have actually learned a lot from the post. One thing is for sure I have spent many days being a "dit dot" in the area and am really looking forward to what looks to be a great future on the coast.
Thanks to all for the great fishing infor.

I thought dit dots and ding batters were only in Harkers Island. I was told a dit dot moves in and stays. A dingbatter is a visitor that goes home. True story, I was at an establishment having a beer with friends, behaving, and the owner came over and told us he didn't need money from a bunch of f-ing dingbatters and we could go home any time now. That establishment is no longer open!

Some people need to relax a bit ... goodness. Pretty sure Bobby is just trying to have a little fun here.
I went out to fuel up on Saturday and went immediately back to my slip. The boat traffic was out of control. People running with no rhyme or reason. Its just downright stressful out there for me when its like that.
I have always thought of Dit-Dots, Dingbatters, Googans, as less of a matter of where someone lives or whether or not they are local, but instead based on their actions. There were a whole lot of dingbatters out there this weekend. I especially liked the ones running wide ass open throught the turning basin almost flipping over all the little boats!

This weekend was full of boaters out on the ICW 10 wided stated by Eric13. I would never place my children in the water were I saw it this weekend on tubes and cris crossing. It changed from a few boats to hundrends in a matter of a week. I even seen a 18ft skiff get washed on the sand bar Tuesday (Bougue Inlet) and the guy stated i didn't know how shallow it was. I'm all for everyone to have a good time but safety should be their first concern espically for people onboard their vessels.

The above link also helps explain the Dit-Dot comment...pretty funny and historically significant if you are familiar with the Southern OBX/Harkers Island area.

The aforementioned link also explains the Dit-Dot remark, which is noteworthy historically and humorous if you are familiar with the Southern OBX/Harkers Island region. tunnel rush
