2005 EAST COAST MILITARY SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Nearly one-hundred military personnel from around the country, Guam and Puerto Rico will compete in the seventh annual East Coast Military Surfing Championships being held on Sat. Nov. 12, at Jeanettes Pier in Nags Head, NC., beginning at 8 a.m. The event is open to all active duty and reserve millitary personnel. Everyone is invited to attend. Competitors interested in attending are on a first come, first serve basis. Maximum number of participants is 200. The event was created seven years ago by Army chief warrant officer Glenn Spence, who wanted to bring surfing to the military masses. The event has grown every year since. Coast Guard Petty Officer Ryan Torbett, of Chesapeake, Va., will be returning to defend his title in the men’s shortboard competition.
