4 RESCUED FROM CAPSIZED VESSEL SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – Early this afternoon, the Coast Guard and a good samaritan rescued three females and one male, out of Port Mansfield Channel in the Laguna Madre. According to initial reports, the four had been fishing when the boat began to take on water from the stern due to choppy waters. The people attempted to bail out the water with buckets when a third wave came over the stern and capsized the boat. The four were in the water for about 3 hours until a good samaritan came on scene and reported the incident to the Coast Guard. Coast Guard Station South Padre Island dispatched a rescue boat crew while the Air Station dispatched a rescue helicopter crew. Two of the survivors swam to a nearby spoil island where the male was rescued by the good samaritan. The other swimmer continued toward the good samaritan where she was then rescued. The good samaritan then went over to the scene of the accident and pulled a third woman from the water. Because the woman was exhausted , he was unable to help her out of the water and waited for Coast Guard rescue units to arrive. The Coast Guard helicopter arrived on scene and hoisted the woman out of the water where she was taken to Port Mansfield Airport and picked up by awaiting EMS. 4 RESCUED FROM CAPSIZED VESSEL SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – Early this afternoon, the Coast Guard and a good samaritan rescued three females and one male, out of Port Mansfield Channel in the Laguna Madre.
