December 4, 2003
Dear Interested Party:
Due to the hazardous conditions in the channel between Oregon Inlet and Wanchese, the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (NCDMF) will allow flounder to be landed in Virginia if it was caught during the current ten-day period ending at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 5. All fishermen holding a License to Land Flounder who need to land in Virginia must immediately call Grace Kemp, NCDMF, at 252-726-7021. She will record license/vessel information and provide instructions on appropriate reporting procedures.
The NCDMF is closely monitoring channel conditions and expects the Army Corp of Engineers to begin dredging soon. Should it become necessary to extend this Virginia landing opportunity for the next 10-day period ending at 6 p.m. on Monday, December 15, we will send out notification.
Sincerely,
Preston P. Pate, Jr., Director
Division of Marine Fisheries
