Coast Guard medevacs bleeding man 32 miles offshore Jacksonville JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Coast Guard rescue crew from Air Station Savannah, Ga., rescued an injured man from his 28-foot fishing vessel, Touche Away, 32 miles east of Mayport, Fla., at 7:30 p.m. David Cox, 45, sent out a mayday call to the Coast Guard at 6 p.m. reporting he was bleeding uncontrollably. Search and rescue coordinators from Coast Guard Group Mayport launched a helicopter crew from Savannah, a rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Mayport and requested assistance from local Naval helicopters to respond to Cox’s request. The rescue crew from Savannah arrived first to rescue Cox and immediately hoisted him inside the helicopter. The crew safety flew Cox to Shands Medical Hospital at 8:30 p.m. were he was treated for his injuries. The cause of his injuries are not known at this time.
