On August 19, 2004 myself and couple of friend left out of home port of Inlet Watch through carolina beach inlet headed offshore to Frying pan tower for the first time. We were going out on my newly purchased 2895CC Triton named Blu By U.
It a a little rough ride first 20 miles or so and the water wasn’t clear at all. Once we reached the 35 mile mark it turn to that clear blue water we were searching for and started to see some schools of bait fish and weed lines everywhere. We finally reached the tower with great expectations of big kings and dolphines. We trolled for the first hour with no bites at all until a downrigger busted loose with the first bite, it was a 10 lb king. shortly after another small king. Than once again fishing was slow. We decided to go little farther out in to some deeper water and we found it 4 miles past the tower and started to work the weed line in about 70 ft of water. within 10 minutes we got 3 lines went off 2 outriggers and one short trolling line and they were dolphines. 2 landed 2 out of 3 nice fish. after landing them we went back to working the weed lines and caught 1 more nice dolphine and 3 more kings one being 20 lbs and 1 shark to boot. It was a great day of fishing at the tower and what a beautiful day to be offshore.
Sorry to hear that the tower is getting put down. At lease we got to fish the tower before that happened. everyone was talking about where the fish are and here we are landed 5 nice kings and 3 dolphines, could not ask for any better day of fishing. looking forward to heading out there again real soon.
