Notice is hereby given that the NC Marine Fisheries Commission Finfish Advisory Committee will meet on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Washington Regional Office, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, 943 Washington Square Mall, Washington, NC.
The Committee will receive an update on management measures being considered by the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council (SAFMC) on various species in the snapper/grouper species complex and on king mackerel.
The Committee will also receive an update on management of highly migratory species by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). NMFS has recently proposed new management measures on sharks. Two shark fishermen expressed strong concerns about the proposed rule at the October 11 – 13, 2004 MFC meeting.
The Committee will also receive an update on proposed management measures proposed by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) on summer flounder. The ASMFC had three public meetings on the proposed measures October 25 – 28, 2004.
