NOAA Fisheries Asks the National Academy of Sciences to Study Seafood Benefits and Risks NOAA Fisheries has contracted with the National Academy of Sciences to recommend approaches to decision-making in selecting seafood. The study objectives include: 1. Estimating current levels of exposure to naturally-occurring and introduced toxicants in seafood; 2. Assessing the availability of specific nutrients in seafood; 3. Developing recommendations on how to maximize nutritional benefits while minimizing potential exposure risks; and, 4. Identifying additional data and research needs. A public meeting will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at: National Academy of Sciences Lecture Room There will be presentations by NOAA Fisheries, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Environmental Protection Agency, followed by an opportunity for open discussion.
