COAST GUARD RESCUES 4 AFTER CAPE MAY BOAT ABLAZE

BOSTON – A helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod rescued four fisherman from the Cape May based fishing boat, Enterprise, two miles east of Nantucket at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday night.

Crew members from the Enterprise, a 72-foot fishing vessel, contacted the Coast Guard via channel 16, the national hailing and distress frequency, after their engine room caught fire. The crew members donned survival gear and launched a life raft.

A Coast Guard helicopter arrived on scene 18 minutes after the initial distress call and air lifted the crew from a life raft before transferring them to Hyannis airport where Emergency Medical Services then transferred them to Cape Cod Hospital.

William Langisera, 45, of New Bedford died at Cape Cod Hospital. Captain John Verissimo, Shannon Pacheceo and Jose Barbosa, all residents of New Bedford, were released from Cape Cod Hospital today.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by Marine Safety Office Providence.
