Opportunity for Public Comment on Enhancement of the Initial Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS)

The public has been invited to comment on the implementation and development of the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS). The IOOS is a sustained network of sensors on buoys, ships, satellites, underwater vehicles, and other platforms that routinely supply the data and information needed for rapid detection and timely predictions of changes in our Nation’s coastal waters and on the high seas. This is the U.S. contribution to the Global Ocean Observing System and to the oceans and coasts component of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems. The First Annual IOOS Development Plan and other planning documents can be viewed at http://www.ocean.us. The public is invited to submit written comments on the plan through April 22, 2005.
