Congressman McIntyre, a member of the House Coastal Caucus, recently helped introduce legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives that strengthens laws to help rebuild North Carolina beaches and reauthorizes a program to research new and innovative ways to combat coastal erosion.
The Coastal Restoration Act restates congressional intent regarding the importance of the federal bench renourishment program. The new measure would lock in place the current cost share agreement with the federal government picking up 65% of the costs and state and local governments paying 35%. The legislation also includes several modifications to extend the life and increase funding for the National Shoreline Erosion Control and Development Program.
North Carolina is the 6th most visited state in the nation, with tourism creating hundreds of thousands of jobs and creating billions in wages and revenue.
