NOAA CoastWatch Establishes Data Node on East Coast
NOAA Coast Watch is establishing an East Coast Node at NOAA’s Chesapeake Bay Office in Annapolis, MD to process near real-time oceanographic satellite data and make the data available to Federal, State and local marine scientists, coastal resource managers, and the general public. Anticipated to open in June 2006, the East Coast Node will be one of six regional CoastWatch Nodes located at NOAA laboratories and offices around the country. It will provide value-added products to users from Maine to Florida, and across the Atlantic to Europe, including measurements of sea surface temperature, Chlorophyll-a, and ocean surface winds.
Specific products will also be developed to meet user requirements; this will include working with regional scientists on algorithm verification and product calibration/validation. Since CoastWatch is a member of the Integrated Ocean Observing System, the East Coast Node will operate in partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Observing System.
