Safety Zone Lifted for North East Cape Fear River WILMINGTON, N.C.- Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Wilmington has lifted the safety zone that was in effect as a result of flood waters caused by Tropical Storm Ernesto. Flood waters have receded and the North East Cape Fear River and Holly Shelter Creek are now open to all vessel traffic. This Safety Zone was in place to restrict vessel traffic in an effort to minimize wake damage to structures in flooded areas, and avoid hindering state and county emergency response operations.
