Coast Guard to Enforce Safety Zone During Crystal Coast Super Boat Grand Prix MOREHEAD CITY, N. C. – The Coast Guard will be enforcing a safety zone from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the Crystal Coast Super Boat Grand Prix on Sunday, September 24, 2006. The safety zone will be in place around the race course, which extends along the waterway from the west end of Sugarloaf Island through the Morehead City State Port Complex and ends near the Beaufort Inlet Entrance. The Coast Guard will have a Patrol Commander on scene, and they may be reached on VHF-FM Channel 16 at all times during the event. Vessel traffic will be restricted beginning 30 minutes prior to the start of each race. A broadcast over VHF-FM Channel 16 will be made by the Coast Guard Patrol Commander prior to closing the race course. Spectator vessels may anchor outside of the safety zone without blocking any federally marked channel. Two races are scheduled to be held on the 24th, the first beginning 11 a.m. and the second beginning at 1 p.m. This event was approved by Commander, Sector North Carolina after publishing a notice of proposed rulemaking with public comment in which there were no public objections.
