COAST GUARD MEDEVACS 91-YEAR-OLD WOMAN FROM CRUISE SHIP | |
PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A Coast Guard crew medevaced a 91-year-old woman from a cruise ship about 275 miles east of Bermuda today. The Voyager of the Seas notified the Coast Guard that the woman was experiencing chest pains at about 4 a.m. After discussions between the ship and a Coast Guard flight surgeon, it was determined that she should be airlifted. An Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., based helicopter and a C-130 airplane launched at about 8 a.m., and stopped over in Bermuda to refuel before traveling to the cruise ship. The helicopter crew hoisted the woman at about 2:30 p.m., and headed for Bermuda. They landed at about 3:30 p.m., and the woman was in stable condition when she was transferred to local emergency medical technicians. Coast Guard flight crews regularly fly far off shore to perform medevacs and search and rescue. |
