Meeting Notes:
The Council will hold an informal public Question and Answer session on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 5:30 PM as part of the week-long meeting. The Q&A session will include Council member Dr. Roy Crabtree, Regional Administrator with NOAA Fisheries and South Atlantic Council Chairman Duane Harris. The public is invited to attend and discuss fisheries issues relevant to the Council’s area of jurisdiction.
Interim Rule/Possible Red Snapper Closure – If the Council considers an Interim Rule (short-term measures) to address overfishing for red snapper, including a closure of both the commercial and recreational red snapper fisheries, there will be a public comment period prior to any action. If action is being considered, the public comment period will begin at 1:45 PM, Thursday, March 5, 2009. An Interim Rule would be effective for 180 days and may be extended for an additional 186 days.
Fishery Ecosystem Plan – The Council will hold a public comment period prior to the approval of the Fishery Ecosystem Plan at 2:30 PM (or immediately following the Snapper Grouper Committee Report) on March 5, 2009.
