New York Wind Energy Area Updates
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) published a Proposed Sale Notice (PSN) for Commercial Leasing for Wind Power on the Outer Continental Shelf Offshore New York in the Federal Register today, June 6, 2016. The 60-day public comment period for the PSN begins today and will end on August 5, 2016. You can find the PSN in the Federal Register here. Comments can be submitted electronically through the regulations.gov website.” Comments may also be submitted in written form (delivered by mail) enclosed in an envelope labeled, “Comments on New York PSN” to: BOEM Office of Renewable Energy Programs, 45600 Woodland Road, VAM-OREP, Sterling, Virginia 20166.
On Thursday June 2nd, the Department of the Interior issued a press release stating the dates of BOEM’s upcoming meetings with the public regarding the New York Wind Energy Area’s Environmental Assessment. The Rhode Island meeting will be held from 6-8 PM on June 23rd at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography (Hazard Rooms A & B). Please refer to the BOEM New York Environmental Assessment Public Meetings webpage for the times and locations of meetings in New Jersey, and New York.
The Rhode Island meeting date and the two New York meetings overlap with the June New England Fishery Management Council (NEFMC) meeting in Portland, Maine. During the first day of the NEFMC meeting (June 21st) at 11 AM, BOEM biologist Brian Hooker will present an update on the status of offshore wind leasing in the Atlantic and the comment periods for site assessment and site characterization activities proposed for offshore New York. If you cannot attend in person and are interested in listening to the NEFMC meeting via webinar, you may register to do so at the following link.
Brian Hooker will also be presenting an overview on BOEM’s renewable energy activities at the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Management Council Meeting on June 14th, 2016; his talk is scheduled from 2:30-3:30 PM. Follow this link for online access to the meeting.
