Anglers and State Directors to Discuss Recreational Data; Mar 29 in Arlington, VA On March 29, NOAA Fisheries Service will host a joint meeting of two key conservation partners – state fish and wildlife agency directors and members of the saltwater sportfishing community. Meeting participants will get a first look at a draft of the National Research Council’s 18-month review of NOAA’s recreational data program. One of the independent report’s expected findings, and a major topic of conversation at the meeting, will be creation of an angler registration as a way to better count saltwater anglers. An angler registration proposal is already included in current drafts of legislation to reauthorize the Magnuson-Stevens Act. The meeting represents NOAA’s ongoing commitment to build a recreational fishing data program that is in sync with management needs and has the confidence of scientists, managers, and the public.
