Battle of the Beaches Fishing Tournament – October 9, 2004 All sports have their definitive tournaments. Hockey and the Stanley Cup. Tennis and the Davis Cup. Golf and the Ryder Cup. These challenges decide the greatest of all teams. Get ready anglers . . . Wilmington fishing is about to unleash its ultimate match up “The Battle of the Beaches!” This tournament will finally answer the debatable question, who are the mightier fishermen? Is it the gentlemen of Wrightsville Beach or the rough and tumble Carolina Beach boys? Long ago lines were drawn, territory was divided and fishermen made alliances. An allegiance to Wrightsville Beach or Carolina Beach determined a fisherman’s tackle shop, a rainy day lunch spot or a post trip watering hole. After this illustrious contest, the victor will get bragging rights for one year. With the winner’s name etched upon the Battle of the Beaches trophy, the cup will be prominently and proudly displayed at either Dockside or Sea Witch Café. This trophy will be guarded and handled only with white knit gloves when, and if, the champion is dethroned. The Cape Fear Blue Water Fishing Club (CFBWFC) is sponsoring the inaugural “Battle of the Beaches” Fishing Tournament. This one-day fishing tournament will take place on October 9th with weigh-in at Dockside Restaurant Transient Dock. The Captain’s Party and final registration will be held at Inlet Watch Yacht Club on October 8th from 8:00 pm – until. Tournament entrants may compete in any of four fishing categories: Blue Water (inclusive of Tuna, Wahoo and Dolphin); Inshore (inclusive of Spanish, Kings, Amberjack and Pompano); Bottom Fish (inclusive of Snapper, Grunts, Trigger, Sea Bass, Amberjack and Grouper); and Nearshore (inclusive of Flounder, Red and Black Drum, Grey and Speckled Trout). Entry fees are $150 per category entered. Fishermen may choose to enter more than one category. The tournament entrants are required to declare a beach affiliation upon registration (either Wrightsville Beach or Carolina Beach). The winning beach – the beach winning the most categories – will be awarded “The Battle of the Beaches Cup” and get bragging rights for one year. The cup will be housed at either Dockside Restaurant or Sea Witch Café (the sponsor of the winning beach). Registration forms, pay-out schedule and more detailed information can be obtained at your favorite local tackle shop or by visiting the CFBWFC online at cfbwfishingclub.com.
