Draft Recommended Best Practices for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminals. Natural gas is becoming an increasingly important source of energy throughout the world and within the United States. The increased demand in the United States has led to a significant increase in the number of domestic license applications to build and operate terminals for the importation of LNG. NOAA is one of the federal agencies involved in assisting the lead agencies in their licensing responsibilities. NOAA reviews LNG project proposals in both nearshore and offshore environments and provides comments and recommendations designed to minimize adverse environmental impacts on marine resources.The primary purpose of the Best Practices document is to provide guidance to NOAA staff to ensure consistent reviews of applications and environmental impact analyses of proposed LNG terminals, including their planning, design, siting, construction and operation.
