PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Rescue crews from the Coast Guard, Cape Charles Volunteer Fire Department and Sentara Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance service medevaced an injured fisherman near Cape Charles, Va., this morning. Coast Guard watch standers at Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads were notified shortly after 9 a.m. that a crewmember onboard the fishing vessel Earl Jay Conrad needed medical attention after suffering head and neck injuries from 20-foot fall into the ships fish hold. Coast Guard crews from Station Cape Charles transferred emergency personnel to the fishing vessel where they stabilized the victim. The Coast Guard then transported the patient to shore where he was turned over to the crew of the Sentara Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance service who flew the victim to the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for further treatment. |
