Coast Guard medevacs three near Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Coast Guard medevaced three people after their jet ski reportedly struck an aid to navigation in the Back Bay area near Atlantic City on Sunday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay were notified by a good Samaritan and dispatched a 29-foot response boat-small crew from Coast Guard Station Atlantic City at about 3:30 p.m.

The RB-S crew arrived on-scene and took a man who suffered leg lacerations and two children who were reportedly in shock to Station Atlantic City, where they were transferred to emergency medical service personnel.

“A number of calls this weekend have been reported by good Samaritans,” said Lt. Chris Shivock, a command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay. “This is a good reminder that everyone on the water can play a key role in the safety of others and why keeping a functional radio or charged cellphone aboard, along with wearing a life jacket and knowing your vessel’s location, can dramatically reduce the time it takes rescuers to get to you in an emergency situation.”
