BALTIMORE — Coast Guard and local partner agency personnel medevaced a man with a neck injury north of Assateague Island Monday morning.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region received a report stating a man jumped from his boat into shallow water and sustained a neck injury.
The man was taken ashore by other boaters aboard his vessel to await emergency medical care.
Sector Maryland-NCR watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Ocean City with two paramedics from Ocean City Fire Department aboard. Maryland Natural Resources Police and Maryland State Police also launched to assist.
Once on scene, the man was transferred to an OCFD boat and taken to Station Ocean City to be medevaced by a Maryland State Police helicopter.
The man was taken to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
