Coast Guard recovers swimmer off NC coast
PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A Coast Guard crew recovered a 43-year-old male swimmer off the coast of Bald Head Island, N.C., Monday at approximately 8:30 p.m.
At approximately 7 p.m., a Brunswick County dispatcher contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina reporting four people were in the water. Three people swam to a nearby shore, and one person was missing.
A 25-foot Response Boat – Small crew from Coast Guard Station Oak Island in Oak Island, N.C., along with an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and crew from Air Station Elizabeth City in Elizabeth City, N.C., responded for the search.
The RB-S crew recovered the missing swimmer and transferred him to emergency medical personnel where he was pronounced deceased by the medical examiner at approximately 9:18 p.m.
