Coast Guard rescues 2 from capsized vessel in Bogue Inlet, NC
EMERALD ISLE, N.C. — A Coast Guard boat crew from Station Emerald Isle rescued two people, a man and a woman, after their vessel capsized in Bogue Inlet near Emerald Isle, Monday.
The boat crew was underway for training on a 45-Foot Response Boat-Medium when crewmembers spotted the capsized vessel.
The woman was reported to be clinging to a navigational buoy while the man was drifting with the vessel. Neither were wearing life jackets.
The crew pulled both people aboard the RB-M and took them back to the station, where they were picked up by Emerald Isle emergency medical services.
"This was us being in the right place at the right time with the right asset," said Petty Officer 1st class Colin Smith, the boat coxswain during the rescue. "We were able to easily maneuver the RB-M in three to five foot seas and recover the two victims with minimal exposure to the boat crew."
The crew just accepted delivery of the new RB-M in early July.
