COAST GUARD RESCUES FISHERMAN 70 MILES OFFSHORE ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – A helicopter and crew from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City rescued a fisherman from a fishing vessel 70 miles east of Atlantic City last night. At approximately 9:30 p.m., Coast Guard Group Atlantic City received a call from the fishing vessel Bulldog stating that 28-year-old crewmember Victor Chavez was suffering from an infected knee and arm, fading in and out of consciousness, incoherent, convulsing, and having trouble breathing. Once on scene, the helicopter and crew were able to hoist the crewmember off the vessel and transport him to an awaiting ambulance at Atlantic City International Airport. The man was then taken to Mainland Hospital for further treatment and was found to have “septic knee”, the effects of which may have been fatal had he not be brought in for treatment.
