PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard search continues tonight for four sailors onboard the sailing vessel Flying Colours who have been missing off the North Carolina coast since Monday morning. The search for the missing sailors, Patrick Topping, 39, Jason Franks, 34, Rhiannon Borisoff, 22 and Christine Grinavic, 25, has covered more than 47,000 nautical square miles, roughly the size of Indiana. Coast Guard search and rescue personnel from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., and the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa were joined this morning by the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Staten Island and the crew of a Navy P3 aircraft from Jacksonville, Fla. The search began Monday when Coast Guard watch standers at the RescueCoordination Center in Portsmouth Va., received an alert from the ship’s Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) at 3:30 a.m. Monday; the last signal from the EPIRB was at 7:00 a.m. Monday. |
