PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard is searching for a missing man Thursday near Cherrystone Inlet in Chesapeake Bay.
Watchstanders at Station Cape Charles in Cape Charles were notified at 4 p.m. by a good Samaritan that a 27-foot Carolina Skiff had capsized with three persons aboard. The good Samaritan rescued two of the mariners but the third remained missing. The missing mariner is reported as a man wearing waders, a red shirt and no personal flotation device.
A 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Cape Charles and a Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City launched to search for the missing mariner along with multiple local agencies.
“Our crews are searching the area for the mariner,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Chris Shore, executive petty officer at Station Cape Charles. “Anyone with information related to the search should call the Sector Hampton Roads Command Center at 757-668-5555.”
