Hunted Friday and Saturday evening- On Friday, I had 8 does comes into the beans with about 15 minutes of light left, no horns so I waited... On Saturday evening, I had 3 does come out 30 minutes before dark... a few minutes later a "cowhorn" comes out a few yards away and starts hounding a couple of the does and eventually runs them out of the field. They came back about 10 minutes later minus the cowhorn... so I wait. With about 10 minutes of light left I look over torward the row of pines that mark my property and here they come. Had what looked to be 12-15 does funnel into the edge of the bean field... no horns... so I wait. Pretty good to see the activity pick up this time of year.
Went yesterday after church to put my camera out- plan was to make a mock scrape since the "cowhorn" was acting a little frisky the day before. Walked to a lane a few yards off the edge of the beans and....... a fresh scrape, very fresh- looked to be made a few hours before. Set the camera up on it... no telling what's gonna show up on it!

Post the pics when you get them. The deer in edgcombe county are showing major signs of Rut. I had a 6 come out the other day and he was definately swollen. The doe are stating in for some reason. They are feeding at night. I want to get a camera but Im just getting into the hunting again and have to buy guns first. I have a 14 year old that has really shown interest. Thats why Im getting back into it. If you guys know of any areas to hunt I would greatly appreciate it. How about game lands or other places. Thanks for the help.

I have had good luck in the NC gamelands in holly ridge. In the stand just observing patterens and saw alot of activity. 2 bucks and 4 doe. Hit the grunt/wheeze, and rattled then bleat and got a lot of interest.

Took an old beat up 6 pointer yesterday evening! Cool thing is that I saw my camera flash go off a few minutes before he stepped into the field. I guess he stopped by the scrape I set my camera on before coming into the field... I've got some cool photos of some of the bucks I've taken but never just a couple minutes apart... Will check the camera Friday just to be sure!

Shot this guy in Orange county Thursday. Tarsal Glands were drenched and stunk. He had only one thing on his mind. Shot a lone doe Friday, but we are are not seeing many does at all. They are coming in and cleaning out the corn at night, but no where to be seen during the day. Glad you guys are starting to see more movement. The bucks are ok, but nothing tastes as good as a medium to large doe.nicedeer_173.jpg

Nice deer Bob.

It used to amaze me riding home from work at night through Butner and seeing the Monsters Feeding on the Hospital Lawn. 8)
