It happens every year , But this Year I have seen several , These are the road kill bucks that are missing their Heads or Antlers.
I do not blame anyone for taking a nice rack but if they do they should take the complete deer and not leave a headless deer on the side of the road .
IMHO the lawmakers of NC should make a law as to where if someone decapitates a head or horns from a buck and are caught , there should be jail time & a $$$ fine .

Maybe I will talk to our local legistatures and see where I can make it go !

What exactly do you want people to do with a dead deer that they found on the side of the road and have no idea how long it's been there?? I can see maybe dragging it into the edge of the woods or something just to get it out of sight but that's about it.

If they did not do the road kill maybe they need to leave it alone or if they do take the antlers at least discard the carcass in an unsightly place , but don't leave it on the side of the road .

I believe if they would take any portion of the road kill they are suppose to register it just as if they shot the deer

You are right about registering it, but not with your tags like you shot it....hit a deer with the truck and the HPatrolman gave me a permit to keep it.

DOT will usually come along eventually (most of the time within a few days) and bury the carcass.

I think we need opossum crossing signs. opossums getting run over and piled up on the side of the road stinking.....there ought to be a law!

Amen...We're already over-regulated to death in every aspect of life as it is.

If you want to take the time to talk to your legislators, do it about something that actually matters, not head-less roadkill!! You certainly have plenty of options right now....

Sure it's road kill? People have been known to shine 'em/shoot 'em and just jack the head. Used to be bad around here. Why would anybody mount a deer they shot at night? Is that some great accomplishment? Might as well buy one at a flea market!

Not sure how spotlighting fits into this discussion...

I don't think accidentally hitting a deer with my truck and taking the horns is in any way equivalent to shooting one under a spotlight just to take the horns. I'm pretty sure that's already highly illegal.

I also don't think we need a law that forces you to clean up your own roadkill, regardless of species. Can you picture a 20 something college girl scraping a possum off I-40 with the heel of her topsiders???

I didn't mean that it is the same thing...I was just wondering if he was sure that they were roadkill. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I never said you need to clean up road kill ,,,,,,,, but if you take the head or dismember a road kill then you should take the road kill with you , I have seen maybe 6 in the past 2 weeks that was a nice buck body and no head lying in the medium or on the side of the road . This makes every hunter like a bunch of rouges , when infact the 1 who took the head probally did not hunt to start with
