Decided to get an early start and got in the stand at 5:00 am. The deer just havent been coming out of the woods so I decided to do an early morning. After a couple of short naps while i waited for the sun to rise I was beginning to see some light. Nice frost on the ground. Just at that moment a doe pops her head out. I hadnt put anything in the freezer yet so I was going to take her. As i was getting the gun in position all hell breaks loose. The damn duck hunters start up a small war in the swamps about 100 yards away from the deer. I wasnt a happy camper so i gather my gear and head home. I figured I would go in the afternoon since everyone would be exchanging gifts hopefully. Got into the stand and just about dark a 4 pointer walks up to my Buck Jam and starts up on it. I fire and he does a complete flip and hits the woods. I grab the gun and light and go to the last place i saw the deer. 5 feet from where i shot him at there was a trail of blood like I had never seen. 15 yards into the woods is as far as he got. The ballistic tips had done there job. The shot was 135 yards by range finder. Entered behind the shoulder breaking 1 rib. It then ripped the lungs and heart apart and broke the front shoulder plate on the other shoulder and never exited. Had a great afternoon. Merry Christmas everyone.
Cool ... backstrap in the freezer
