Went to my college room mates new property in Culpepper VA.
His life long dream of having his own hunting land and cabin finally came true and we opened up his first season on Saturday AM
An hour after getting in my stand, monster buck! 50 yards broadside..
BOOM.. Miss? WTF! Hit a sapling that was 4 inches left of where I was aiming. Back to site the gun in AGAIN and it was off 4 inches left at 50 yards. No idea what happened, it was shooting straight when I left NC
Spent the next three mornings and afternoons watching some does and small bucks but I did not see another big buck
My friend broke in his new place with a coyote and fox for the taxidermist and a doe for the freezer.
The pigs did not show up for us and we had planned to go at night for them, but 25 degrees and 40 MPH winds had us changing plans.
So happy for my friend to fulfill his life long dream and so grateful that he invited me up for the first weekend.
I just spent an hour with a couple of leg quarters trying to figure out what to do with them. I can fillet the heck out of some fish, but deer? No idea. It is all cubed up now LOL
Might try hunting in China Grove on Wednesday or over near Cape Carteret this weekend.
Take those leg quarters and make a stew in a large pot. Cut to fit. Taste better when left on the bone. just wait a few hours until it falls off the bone and you are done. I make a few of these a year.
Sounds like a good time. Maybe next time you'll get that big boy
