Looks like the ducks have "gone south". My spots are very slow, recent rain hasn't helped. What about New River or north toward Pamlico anyone seeing / hearing anything?

ding,
I hunt in pine tops and the back of the land is a major duck hunting swamp. dude, they are still thick int there. I went hunting Sat. afternoon and saw an ungodly number heading in the swamps. They are definately around. Their is a lot more water in the swamps as well. They may just be holding in that tighter cover since there is more water. This is a guess since I have never duck hunted before but Im gonna try soon.

I got about 4+ inches of rain in an hour Christmas Day, there is water everywhere and the birds are really scattered in this area. Just to much water right now. Looks like the wind is going to really blow most of the week too so that will probably kill any big water hunting for me. Strong cold front moving in late in the week, perhaps we'll get a hard freeze.

Not in these parts for sure. Saw maybe 25 woodies this AM. 100 ringnecks but they were nose bleed high and climbing.

We actually saw a few ducks this morning. We killed 3 buffies and 1 bluebill. Not the numbers we would like to see, but at least a few to keep us excited. Also, last week I was on the Chesapeake Bay and they had just got a push of ducks and geese so mabey they are on the way!

I'm thinking real hard about a diver hunt for tomorrow on New River. I haven't had any chance to scout so I'll just play it by ear but its time for some birds to show up there. BTW what is the limit on bufflehead?

Wow what a difference a week makes, now its just plain bad! I checked one spot today, locked up tight. A friend of mine had a permit for Spring Creek impoundment he had to break ice 2" thick as the entire impoundment was frozen. I would hit the rivers but the water is still pretty high so I guess I wait a few more days. On a positive note the full moon is getting smaller LoL Weather permitting I hope to hit some big water in the coming weeks, but from what repots I've recieved its slow too. I'm sure glad the season last until Jan 30th, maybe the last few weeks will improve!
