Hello everyone,

Let me start off by saying, I'm not lookig for you to reveal your best location. My wife's family has a house on Oak Island and I want to find some good locations for duck hunting. I have been looking on ncwildlife.org and the closest public hunting preserve that allows duck hunting is Juniper Creek off of Hwy 211.

Is it legal to hunt in the marshes with a John Boat?
Can you hunt along the lockwood folly river?
Anything locations off 133 towards Southoort or Wilmington?

I am all for scouting my own locations, I just need a starting place. Also knowing what is public land and what is private in the surrounding areas would be helpful. My goal is to find a good spot 30-45 min from the island so that I can hunt while on vacation.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Orry

Is everyone scared of revealing their "super secret" location?

I have seen similar posts on here before, so I know that my question is not absurd.

I had a discussion the other day about how hunters/fishermen always try to give you the run around when you ask for information. This post may prove me wrong, but I feel like people that have a true interest in the sport would be willing to teach others so that the sport can survive. If all the hunters/fisherman in the world never shared their knowledge with the younger generation, hunting and fishing would cease to exist as those people die off.

60+ people have viewed the beginning of this thread without one single reply.

I guess I might have been wrong in trying to be optimistic!

You can hunt on the waterway from a John boat with no problem. You just have to make sure you are the proper distance from surrounding houses, 500 yards I think. Someone will correct me if Im wrong. Find where the ducks are going and have at it. A fair amount of decoys always helps as well.

Call your local game warden and he should be able to help you.

You can usually hunt from any navigable waterway or area affected by tide as long as you hunt from a boat. Also check for any local town ordinance. I believe the Topsail/Surf City area have passed town ordinances that do not allow waterfowl hunting from local marshes east of the ICW.
