Went duck hunting around Topsail last year with a friend, kinda got hooked. Went a few times this year and got my first bird. Just a Merganser but ended up breasting it out and cooked it tonight after it soaked overnight. Not bad actually

If you can eat a merg, you'll love real ducks. Heck, go shoot a coot and
see if you can get that down!

Nothing wrong with a merganser. They just get a bad wrap. I see a lot of folks who shoot them and toss them in the trash. It really pisses me off. Hope you have a great season next year.

Certainly edible if you remove the fat, good on you for at least trying it

Congrats. Hope you get a chance to get out there this weekend and get on them. Mergs are just fine as a stew duck or a gumbo.

Never tried mergs or Coots. And yes folks do like to light them up just sitting on the water.
