Ive got a 5 year old Browning Gold Hunter(automatic) that I bought new and have only shot a couple cases of shells through. For some reason, it doesnt discharge the empty shell properly. The shell gets a little ways out, just enough to jamb the gun at least 3 out of 5 shots. Wondering if there is anything I can do to fix it myself, any adjustment to be made before dove hunting tomorrow. I dont know much about gun repair, but it is oiled very well so thats not the problem. And I have tried different brands of shells with different oz of powder and shot and havent seen much difference. Any help would be appreciated.
I've had the same issue with my browning silver. I was told to make sure there was no oil residue left after cleaning. Too much oil will cause the carbon/powder to build up after firing. Also was told to use a silicone cloth after cleaning. Bottom line is to make sure the gun is dry of any oil. I'm looking seriously at getting a Berritta if this continues. One other thing I read today was that it's recommended to shoot 20 rounds of magnum loads to break in a gun when new. Good luck on your dove hunt.
Does it still do it after shooting heavy buckshot?
thanks guys. Have not tried it with buckshot but I have tried 3-1/2 T's for shooting geese and it was not nearly as bad as the lighter loads like low brass 7's and 8's.
Shoot a bunch of heavy buckshot(10 rounds) through it and see what it does. It should fire those rounds better and if it doesn't, you can change out the spring to a lighter version for lighter loads. Shooting the buckshot will usually loosen everything up so it fires better. Like you said, you've only fired a couple boxes through it.
want be much left of those doves after the buckshot will they?
What kind of shells are you shootin?those cheap silver belted rounds hang em up worst than any,the metal expands and hangs em up,shoot good brass shells.dont know if this helps?i shoot brownings. and had the same prob
I dont shoot cheap shells, I have a problem with those discharging from every gun I own. Shot 4-1/2 boxes today and gun jambed up one out of three times on average Id say. Looks like Im about to go gun shopping.
Is it a gas recoil gun or spring. I had same problem years ago with a Browning B-80 and it was fixed by a gunsmith simply by changing the gas cylinder. It was rather inexpensive repair if I remember correctly.
Yea,i have to agree, gunsmith, gas cylinder or spring tweakin.
I have only seen 1 auto that shoots anything 2 3/4" - 3 1/2" shells well, and it ain't a Browning Gold. (Benelli SBE) Some manufacturers (Mossberg) tell you the 3 1/2" guns are for 3" and 3 1/2" shells only.

I have a Browning Gold Hunter also, it had a similar problem with low brass shells, send it back to Browning and let them adjust it. Mine came back and worked great, however its like any semi auto - you fire enough rounds through it - it will hang up occasionally with low brass shells. I have never had a problem with high brass from 2 3/4 - 3 1/2.
If you decide to replace it PM me with a price - my son wants one 8)
sounds like a gas port is cloged and to much oil. needs to be broke down and cleaned really good. less oil is best. to much oil will clog the gas ports. been there done that. im with ricky holden pm me with a price. hope this helps. good luck on your hunt.
