Just finished with a memorable afternoon of a lifetime for me and my youngest. We have been talking about letting some deer walk and learning a little about not shooting everything he sees since he has killed several deer the last couple of years. Well...it was a prophetic talk. We set up a ground blind near a heavy doe traffic area and he reluctantly watched a few does go by....I was proud of him showing some maturity and understanding of what we were doing. 15 minutes before dark this stud came out on the trail of two does that had come by 30 minutes earlier. It seemed like an eternity between when we saw it and he took the shot. The .223 did the trick and he made a great shot. The pictures tell the rest! 14 points, 17" spread. Wouldn't be prouder if I had shot it myself.

BTW Greg I applaud you on how much time you put in with Jeb, he is in all most all of your post and pictures (fishing and hunting) and that speaks volumes for you as a father.

Mak....how ya'll doing across the river? It was Harnett Co. We are going to mount it for him (mounted his first deer last year, a doe, will make a nice pair) but I'm not hanging it real close to any of my mounts!

You've ruined him for deer hunting now. He'll always compare every other buck to that one. He might not fire another shell for 10 years. That is a monster. There are many men (myself included) who've been hunting for years and never killed one that big (except for the guys that shoot them in a pen in Texas). That's an awesome deer, and a trophy at any age. My hat's off to you and your son. Congratulations.
I heard the quote one time...."If you hunt with your kids, you'll never have to hunt for your kids." Good for you for spending this quality time with him.
