well my bird had moved his roost about 400 yards down from his usual spot this morning so I was setup way to far from him...he came out into the field along with two hens and all I could do was watch him strut throught the bino's...finally I was able to get up and get around on them but because they were feeding away from me I wasn't able to catch them very quick...not to mention its very open where I was so I had to move when they were out of sight behind trees and bushes all on hands and knees...it also helped that the wind was HOWLING...it was blowing so hard I could see him gobble but couldn't hear it and I was about 200 yards away from him...finally I am able to slip to within 50 yards or so and setup camp...he is strutting his stuff and as of now I have been watching it for over 3 hours...he gets down to the bottom of the field and for some reason I thought there was another field below this one so when they disappear I stand up to slide down a little closer...well the burm on the side of the field was hiding them perfect and they were no more than 20 yards from me...busted...I slowly sit back down while one hen and the gobbler are both looking at me...keep in mind the wind is blowing 25 plus so they just turn and walk off...no alarm putts or anything...I sat there for another 15 minutes or so and no birds...so I belly crawl up to the next tree and there he is strutting again...no sign of the hens...I sit and watch this for at least another hour before I soft cluck to him and a hen head pops up out of the winter wheat...then another...and they start walking back towards me...he gobbles at 50 yards and I can barely hear it...maybe its my heart beating to loudly who knows...so the hens walk to within 8 yards of me and they are feeding around in and out of the wheat when big boy decided they were getting too far away and here he comes...I let him clear the pine tree at 25 yards and game over...the Hevi-13 #7's drop him...no flop nothing...the two hens pop their heads up and look around then go right back to feeding...they didn't have a clue I was there until I stood up...and let me tell you the first step after sitting on your foot for and hour straight can get pretty wild...I hobbled over and collected my bird...its my second bird in 10 years of off and on turkey hunting...was very proud of this one so off to have a fan mount done...
