I recently bought a 935 semi-auto waterfowl edition. I duck hunt pretty hard and need a gun that can handle saltwater hunting on a 6-day/week basis. Well, needless to say I was less than pleased with my 935's performance. After 5 days of hunting (and thorough cleaning after every hunt), the action on the gun began to malfunction. On a trip to the coast the following week, the gun completely failed and absolutely would not cycle shells. I had to sit and watch a flock of 500 blackheads land in my decoys and with only 1 shot the damage I did was far less than what I wanted. Needless to say, the gun was at the gunsmith that afternoon and I was told that I had a defective action. The gun was sent back to the company and I am still waiting for it to get back. A couple of questions. Has anyone had this issue with Mossberg? I know their pumps are great, but I was wondering if their semis have a history of jamming? I was using 3.5 Kents so I know the issue with 2 3/4 shot was not my issue. How is their customer service, It's been more than a month and I still haven't heard back. they originally said 3 weeks. I am concerned I may have made a mistake and might be better off cutting my losses and trying to sell back the gun for as much as I can get for it and starting over. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
The first one I bought wouldn't fire.... something with the pin. After I researched the gun I found out that there were significant improvements made to the gun after a certain date. I brought it back to Gander and I demanded a replacement with a recent serial #. This one has been fine.
My brother got a 20 ga moss for his girlfriend not sure the model. It will not kick the shell out no matter the load and it did this from day one outta the box. I have never seen a new semi auto do this right outta the box its been worked on several times still no luck
I actually bought it from gander mountain. I'm hoping they fix it/send me a new one the salesman really talked me into this make and model I'm just hoping I didn't make a mistake! I will say that 28 in barrel with 3.5 s really has great knockdown power... When it works lol. As for the other comment I've heard mossbergs are poor when shooting light loads at least for 12 gauges not sure about their 20 s maybe you should shoot a larger shell size whatever your barrel is chambered for and see if that helps. Just my two cents
That gun not kicking out shells could be the type and size of brass its grabbing
I have the exact same gun-935 Waterfall Edition 28" barrel. I bought it in 2003 and have never had a problem with it running 3's or 3 1/2's. As other's have stated, it will not cycle 2 3/4 shells, but Mossberg doesn't claim that it will. Overall, it has been a great gun for the money. I would give it one more try and hopefully your next one will be better.
I was thinking the shells were the problem as well but it does it no matter the brand or if its a buckshot or a #8
I personally opt for another manufacturer. I know Mossbergs are standard issue for police and military, but they have always felt cheap and wobbly to me.
On a second thought, would the police and military be using them because they are a low cost yet "somewhat" reliable firearm? I mean, policemen drive around with Mossbergs all the time and never use them. So i guess they are good for shooting here and there but extreme hunting use, that's questionable. I would have spent a little more money and gotten something of higher quality if you are truly hunting 6 days a week. Obviously you enjoy hunting and invest your time into hunting. Shouldn't you be investing in a firearm that can allow you to have a higher return on you investment of time?
Just food for thought, not criticizing.
I know this is an old thread, however, my son had a Benelli Super-Nova and it stayed in the shop more than the swamp/ field. He has since sold that POS and bought a Mossberg 935 waterfowl edition like the OP's. So far so good. The shop he ordered it from got it from Davidson's and they offer a lifetime replacement/ repair warranty. He paid a little more for it but the lifetime warranty IMO was well worth the extra coin!
