I was thinking about taking a day or two at the end of the month and trying to chase some bear somewhere along the coast. I've been looking at a few of the public areas. I'm coming from Ft. Bragg so I was thinking of somewhere between New Bern and Wilmington.
Some of the areas I was looking at are Angola Bay, Holly Shelter, Croatan, or Juniper Creek.
Also wouldn't be opposed to paying an reasonable access fee if someone has some private land I could hunt.

What do you all think?

Thanks,
Tim

You have got Bladen Lakes State Forest within 30 minutes of Bragg. There is plenty there, that was my backyard for 20 years.

Cool, Bladen is the one I was probably going to go to if I didn't get any feedback. Only problem with Bladen is you can only hunt on M,W,S.

Have any suggestions for hunting Bladen on foot?

Thanks!

The Johnson Mill Pond tract down from Bladen Lakes School is the best it is off of Johnsontown Rd. off of Hwy. 242. If on foot you will need to do allot of scouting down some of the fire breaks & look for crossing.

Good stuff! One of the other guys just informed me that it's shotgun only there so that will be an issue. I don't have a slug gun. Be nice if i could get myself one for christmas but I don't think that'll happen!

The season in Brunswick and Columbus counties closes Christmas Day. Been pretty slow for us this year, cold weather maybe. The guys I hunt with killed 4 or 5 but nothing really big, most around 200 lbs. They usually get at least one 400+ a year and have killed a few over 500. Several would have been B&C if they had got them scored.
